Reader Email: Help Finding an Elliptical For Around $1500

by Johnny on November 7, 2009

Just got this email from a reader. I answered his elliptical question in 18 hours, I can answer yours too! Just send an email to treadmillmaster@gmail.com

I have been searching the net for elliptical reviews for a number of days now. Reviews of most brands
from different sites vary. I’m not looking for bells and whistles – just something that will be around for several years without any major maintenace issues ( read some nightmares about that i.e. parts, support, etc ). In your opinion what ellipitical would you recommend in the 1500 dollars price range

Hello Danny,
Believe me, I know how much treadmill and elliptical trainer reivews out on the net vary. Most are written by people who do not know what they are talking about. The ones who do know what they’re talking about are almost always paid off by someone to change negative reviews in to positive reviews or vice versa. I want to assure you, I do not do that. The recommendations I’m about to make to you are based on my experiences using the equipment and having worked in the industry for a number of years.

Avoid anything manufactured by Icon Fitness. Icon Fitness includes the following brands: NordicTrack, Pro-Form, Weider, Healthrider, Freemotion, Image, Weslo, Epic, Reebok, Gold’s Gym, iFit, and UTS. I really do hate to make blanket statements about an entire company, but most units I have researched are subpar. There are some great treadmills and elliptical trainers manufactured by Icon Fitness, but finding a good Icon Fitness product is like finding a needle in a haystack. I’m sure one day I will post about some of the better Icon Fitness Treadmills and Elliptical Trainers, but today is not that day.

Elliptical Brands I recommend: Sole Fitness, Smooth Fitness, Spirit Fitness. These brands tend to offer excellent units, and great customer service. The differences between comparably priced elliptical trainers from each manufacturer are minimal. You might find a sale here and there that will or maybe even $100 off the price, but they’re all going to be pretty much the same. Come to think of it, Smooth Fitness does have a sale going on right now and the Smooth 3.7 and Smooth 3.2 Elliptical Trainers have an unparalleled two-year labor warranty. Most treadmills and elliptical trainers in the $1500 price range cover labor for a year or less. If you’re concerned about durability, definitely go with a Smooth Elliptical.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I hope this is helpful and you find what you’re looking for. If I’m not available you can always refer back to my site Pro Treadmill Reviews. If I was helpful and you have a blog or website I would really appreciate a link or a tweet if you twitter.

Sincerely,
John Bravo
