Hello Readers,
There are so many treadmills out there I doubt I will ever have enough time to review them all. I know we’re coming up on the busy season for fitness equipment. If I still worked at a treadmill shop I’d be buzzing around helping out whoever needed help. It was not a confirmation spend as many as 10 hours or more per day between now and the end of February helping the order department catch up on paperwork for the shipping department ship and receive treadmills. I know a lot of you are going to be buying a treadmill next month or two and I can’t review every treadmill there is in the next two months. I figure the best solution is to provide you with my top picks for the year. This is my Top Treadmills 2009 Buyer’s Guide.
Horizon T91 Treadmill – Best walking treadmill
Best walking treadmill 5 years running

If I had been blogging about treadmills for the last five years the Horizon T91 Treadmill would make it to my list every year. The Horizon T91 Treadmill gets a name change and a redesigned console every year or two but the core of this treadmill is usually the same every year. Last year I think the Horizon T91 Treadmill was called the Horizon T81 Treadmill. The Horizon T91 Treadmill makes it to my Best Treadmills List because it is the best treadmill you will find for walking. There are cheaper alternatives to the Horizon T91 Treadmill such as the Merit 710T and the Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill but they can’t compare to the comfort level of the Horizon T91 Treadmill.
Comfort is not the only thing the Horizon T91 Treadmill has going for it. You get a fairly large console display and dedicated buttons for speed and incline. Normally, speed and incline buttons, much more expensive treadmills! Add a healthy list of fitness programs and one-year parts and labor in-home service warranty and you got yourself the makings of one of the best treadmills that has ever been put on the market.

The Smooth 5.45 Treadmill is very comfortable and comes with a legendary warranty
The Smooth 5.45 Treadmill is my pick for the best mid-range treadmill. There are three primary reasons why I often find myself recommending this treadmill to friends and family members when they ask me what treadmill to buy. First, Smooth Fitness on the whole delivers very comfortable treadmills. The Smooth 5.45 Treadmill is no exception. If you ever had the chance to compare the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill side-by-side to more expensive treadmills you probably would not be able to distinguish a difference. Considering how comfortable this treadmill as you would probably think this is one of Smooth Fitness’ high-end, expensive treadmills. Much to the contrary, the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill can be delivered to your home for less than $1000.
What really puts the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill upon a pedestal is the warranty. Smooth Fitness offers a two year parts AND labor warranty. A two year parts and labor warranty is completely unheard of for a treadmill that sells for less than $1000! Do you remember when Ford and Chevy offered their employee discount and 0% financing to everyone? A 2 year parts and labor warranty on a $999 treadmill is just as rare as the Ford Employee Discount offer.
If you have $1000 budget to buy her treadmill you can’t do any better than the Smooth 5.45 Treadmill!

These two treadmills caused me a great deal of grief. I reviewed my notes and tried to pick a winner. In the end, I couldn’t. It was a dead tie. Each of these treadmills had one flaw. The Sole F80 has an abridged 20” x 55” running area and the Smooth 6.45M Treadmill has a relatively low 10 MPH top speed. Mind you, I put these two treadmills in my Top Treadmills 2009 list as some of the best treadmills for a reason. Both offer a wide variety of programs, are backed by companies with great customer support should a warranty issue arise, and most importantly of all they are comfortable! Comfort, comfort, comfort is my motto when it comes to choosing fitness equipment. If it is not comfortable it will not get used.
So, each has a minor flaw that I can overlook. I suppose it rests on you to decide which flaw you can live with.
Treadmill: Sole F85 Treadmill – The Cadillac of treadmills!
Price: $1999
Sole F85 Folding Treadmill. FREE Shipping!
There really is no contest here. The Sole F85 Treadmill wins any head-to-head competition with any residential grade treadmill out there. The price tag may seem a little big, but believe me, Sole justifies the price 10 fold! The first Sole Treadmill I tried out in my fitness equipment career was a Sole F80 and I thought treadmills didn’t get any better than that. I was wrong. A few months later our shop came across a Sole F85 Treadmill and I couldn’t believe the difference I felt between $1500 treadmill units and the Sole F85 Treadmill. It really is night and day! The treadmill ran quieter and my 260 pound frame did not cause the belt slip once even when I’m ran on it at full speed. If there is a Hilton Hotel anywhere close to you try sneaking into the fitness room and trying out the Sole Treadmills. Sole is the exclusive supplier of treadmills for Hilton Hotels, another testament to the quality engineering team at Sole Fitness.
The Sole F85 truly is the pinnacle of residential grade fitness equipment. If I could afford one of these I would definitely put this in my own. If you’re looking for a high-end treadmill with ALL the bells and whistles you could possibly want or imagine coming with a treadmill you have found it. You have found the Sole F85 Treadmill.
I suppose I will conclude my guide to the best treadmills of 2009. I put a lot of work into this list and I called upon all my knowledge and experience from the fitness equipment industry to put together this post. If you have any questions at all you can e-mail me at treadmillmaster@gmail.com. I’m more than happy to answer questions and look forward to them. Until next time goodbye.
